Turner Prize Shortlist Announced for 2025

Four artists have been shortlisted for this year's Turner Prize: Mohammed Sami, Zadie Xa, Nnena Kalu, and Rene Matić. The announcement coincides with the 250th anniversary of J.M.W. Turner's birth.

Mohammed Sami and Zadie Xa are both painters, with Xa also creating installations. Sami's large landscape paintings explore themes of war and migration, while Xa mixes references from Vancouver and Korean heritage. Nnena Kalu creates sculptures from coloured paper and wool, continuing a practice developed over two decades. Rene Matić's photography captures intimate moments with family and friends, as well as skinhead subculture.

The shortlist was selected by a jury of curators, with works drawn from international exhibitions such as the Sharjah Biennial. The exhibition will be held in Bradford, though the specific venue has not been confirmed in the announcement.
