Bonnie Tyler's funeral is being held in Swansea today (August 17), as family, friends, and fans gather to remember the singer's life and legacy. The Total Eclipse Of The Heart star, whose real name was Gaynor Hopkins, died in Portugal on July 9, a few months after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery. She was 75.
Fans Line Streets as Coffin Returns Home
Over the weekend, Tyler's body was returned to her hometown, and on Saturday, August 15, fans lined the streets of Mumbles in Swansea as her coffin, draped in the Welsh flag, was led in a procession to her home. The emotional crowd broke into a rendition of Total Eclipse Of The Heart as the coffin passed by.
The funeral service is taking place at Swansea Minister at midday, with entry limited to family, friends, and invited guests. However, the hour-long service is reportedly being aired on a large screen in St David's Square, and fans worldwide can watch the funeral online for free, with the live stream expected to begin at 11am.
Final Journey Through Hometown
Following the service, Tyler will be taken on a final journey through her hometown of Skewen, near Neath, at around 1:20pm. The celebration will conclude with a private family committal and farewell service. According to Swansea Council, the funeral procession will travel along Fabian Way to Ashleigh Terrace and through Jersey Marine, then pass through Pen Y Heol, Burrows Road, Hen Hoel, New Road, Sidling Terrace, Park Avenue, and Peniel Green Road.
Tyler's passing came just months after she was put into an induced coma while in intensive care following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal. Concerns about her health first arose in March 2026 when she was forced to postpone the European leg of her tour.
