The funeral arrangements for Welsh music legend Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, have been announced following her death in a Portuguese hospital on 8 July 2026 at the age of 75. Her family has released details via a notice in the South Wales Evening Post, outlining a celebration of her life in Swansea and opportunities for the public to pay their respects.
Public Procession and Celebration
Tyler is currently resting at William Pressdee Funeralcare in Mumbles. On Saturday, August 15 at 3.30pm, she will return to her home, Fernhill. Members of the public wishing to pay their respects are invited to line Newton Road, Mumbles from 3.15pm.
A celebration of Gaynor's life will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary's Church) on Monday, August 17 at 12 noon. Following the service, Tyler will return to her birthplace of Skewen, where she is affectionately remembered as a "Skewen girl" who would visit her family in her Rolls-Royce, at around 1.20pm, en route to a private family service of committal and farewell.
Charitable Donations Requested
Her family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales or Cerebral Palsy Cymru, charities of which Tyler was a patron. The notice states: "Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly invites donations in support of two charities of which Gaynor was a patron: Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales, Heath Park, Cardiff, CF14 4XW, or to Cerebral Palsy Cymru, 1 The Courtyard, 73 Ty Glas Avenue, Llanishen, Cardiff, CF14 5DX." Donations can also be made via the online version of the notice at funeral-notices.co.uk.
Final Health Struggles and Tributes
Tyler had been in poor health after being placed in an induced coma following emergency intestinal surgery in May. Before her passing, her team had expressed hope that she would recover in time for autumn performances, including a homecoming concert in Cardiff. Following her death, tributes flooded in from around the world, with fans, friends, and family leaving flowers outside her Mumbles residence. The notice concludes: "Her legacy lives on in the timeless songs that made her a legend."
