The family of music legend Bonnie Tyler has released funeral arrangements, inviting fans to line the streets of Mumbles and Skewen to pay their respects. The singer, born Gaynor Hopkins, died in a Portuguese hospital on July 8 at age 75.
Funeral Procession and Public Tribute
Tyler will rest at William Pressdee Funeralcare in Mumbles before returning to her home, Fernhill, on Saturday, August 15 at 3.30pm. The family has asked members of the public to line Newton Road, Mumbles from 3.15pm to pay their respects.
A celebration of her life will be held at Swansea Minster (St. Mary's Church) on Monday, August 17 at 12 noon. Following the service, Tyler will travel through her hometown of Skewen at approximately 1.20pm en route to a private family service of committal and farewell.
Charity Donations Requested
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to two charities of which Tyler was a patron: Noah's Ark Children's Hospital for Wales, Heath Park, Cardiff, CF14 4XW, or Cerebral Palsy Cymru, 1 The Courtyard, 73 Ty Glas Avenue, Llanishen, Cardiff, CF14 5DX. The funeral notice, published in the South Wales Evening Post, reads: "Gaynor passed away tragically on July 8, 2026 at hospital in Portugal, aged 75. Born Gaynor Hopkins in Skewen on June 8, 1951, she was known professionally as Bonnie Tyler, a beloved Welsh singer whose powerful voice defined classics like 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' and 'Holding Out for a Hero'. She rose from local club performances to global fame, earning an MBE, Grammy nominations, and a place in music history with her iconic raspy vocals and unforgettable ballads."
Family and Legacy
Tyler is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Robert, and her siblings Marlene, Angela, Avis, Paul, and the late Pauline and Lynn. She was a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews. The notice adds: "She is remembered as a warm, generous artist whose music touched generations and continues to fill dance floors and karaoke booths around the world."
Tyler had been unwell after emergency intestinal surgery in May, which placed her in an induced coma. Her team had hoped she would recover in time for autumn performances, including a homecoming gig in Cardiff. Following her death, tributes poured in globally, with flowers left outside her Mumbles home.
