Bobbi Brown's London Favourites
Legendary make-up artist Bobbi Brown has revealed her personal London insider guide, sharing her favourite spots for dining, shopping, and relaxation. Brown, who founded the Jones Road beauty brand, told the Standard about her deep affection for the city, calling herself an 'Anglophile' who finds London immediately puts her in a better mood.
When in London, Brown stays at Claridge's, describing it as 'the perfect hideaway for some R&R' and the go-to for classic luxury. For a romantic evening, she recommends Scott's restaurant for a martini, calling it 'very romantic, very traditional and incredibly cosy.'
Shopping and Style
Brown relies on several London stores, including Anya Hindmarch for its ever-changing offerings, Smythson for date books and glasses cases, Paul Smith for coats and jackets, and Liberty London. She noted that after visiting the beauty counter, she enjoys walking through Liberty for fashion and small purse items.
Her favourite meal in London is at Scott's, where she loves the Dover sole and the martinis. Brown also mentioned that she collects eyeglasses and purses, sharing them with her daughters-in-law and a girlfriend-in-law.
Iconic London and Local Secrets
Brown expressed regret at never meeting Queen Elizabeth II, whom she admired for their shared stature and genuine care for people. She also revealed a personal London secret: The Connaught hotel, where the management takes excellent care of her.
For exercise, Brown and her husband walk everywhere, easily clocking over 20,000 steps a day. She always wears sneakers in London, especially during the Christmas holidays when they walk through brightly lit streets, find a cosy pub, and grab ice cream on the way home.
Cab Stories and Nightlife
Brown has a regular London cabbie named John, whom she calls every time she's in town. She enjoys hearing updates about his kids and wife. When asked about nightlife, Brown admitted she is usually asleep by 10:30 pm, but enjoys a drink at her friend Martin's restaurant, Blank.
Brown also shared her love for The Light Salon spas for red-light facials, and for headspace, she takes a bath, puts on a robe, gets into bed with tea, and listens to the BBC to hear the accents.
Work and Art
Brown recently launched Jones Road Bright Skin illuminating drops, which she calls 'my vacation in a bottle.' She collects artwork by graffiti artist Endless and has been collecting his work for some time.
