Benidorm's Adam Gillen: marriage and new roles now

Adam Gillen, who played Liam Conroy in the ITV comedy Benidorm, has seen significant changes in both his personal and professional life. He married his former co-star Laila Zaidi, and his appearance has transformed, with a wiry grey beard, slicked back grey hair, and an earring.

Romance with co-star

Gillen joined Benidorm in 2011 and later began a relationship with Laila Zaidi, who played Cyd on the show. The couple started dating in 2018, the same year Benidorm ended, and got engaged in 2023 during a holiday in Croatia. Zaidi announced the engagement on Instagram, writing: "A whole week of being a diiiirty flirttttyyy thirty FIANCÉ !!!!!!!"

They married earlier this year in an intimate ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in London. Coronation Street star Sally Carman was among those who sent congratulations after the couple shared photos from their wedding day.

Career transformation

Gillen's acting career has continued to thrive. In 2023, he appeared in the BBC drama Boat Story, playing the sinister character Vinnie Douglas. The series followed two strangers who discover a large haul of drugs on a boat and are targeted by mobsters and police.

Currently, he is portraying 'old man' William in the play How The Other Half Loves at The Old Vic theatre in London, which runs until September 19.

Zaidi has also maintained an impressive acting career since Benidorm, with roles in BBC's Mood, Doctors, and Ackley Bridge.
