BBC viewers have only just discovered a harrowing true crime documentary that can be streamed for free on iPlayer. The six-part series, titled Red Flag, is available in full on the platform, with episodes also on streaming service U and Channel 4.
The series explores the dangerous sides of modern dating, featuring real-life survivors who were targeted by conmen or abusers. It first aired in 2024 on U (formerly UKTV), but has found a new audience on BBC iPlayer.
What is Red Flag About?
A synopsis reads: "Love shouldn’t feel like fear. The real life stories of people who have been catfished, gaslit and abused by seemingly perfect partners - shared as a warning by those who survived."
Viewers have taken to social media to share their reactions. One person said on TikTok: "I started watching last night and I had tears from the start these poor ladies it's heartbreaking what they've been through." Another replied: "Watched it 1st episode is heartbreaking", as a third commented: "I've binged this today after seeing it and wow."
Viewer Reactions
A fourth viewer said: "One of the best true crime genres has just released a new series out on the BBC, it is the genre of true crime that we all love but scares us to death." They added: "It sounds like it's going to be a horrific and tough watch, however I bet it's going to be good, I bet we will learn something."
One person suggested: "They should let students watch this in secondary schools powerful series 1 traumatic but it could save lives literally." Another true crime fan called the show a "heartbreaking, but must watch".
Future Series
It was previously reported that MAFS UK expert Paul C Brunson would front a brand new series of the show, to be released on U, where he will chat to survivors of toxic relationships as they unpack the red flags that tore them apart.
At the time, Paul said: "Red Flag is an important series that shines a spotlight on manipulative behaviour that a lot of us think we will never fall victim to. The stories explored in this series are deeply personal and I am honoured that the contributors are willing to share their experiences with me and U viewers. It’s important to me that this series is not just re-telling stories but unearthing shared human experiences."
Red Flag can be streamed on BBC iPlayer, as well as on U and Channel 4.
