Bamburgh Castle Hosts The Last Kingdom Exhibition

Bamburgh Castle, the real-life Bebbanburg from Netflix's historical drama The Last Kingdom, is now hosting an exclusive exhibition of costumes and props from the series until 1 November. Fans can immerse themselves in the world of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, portrayed by Alexander Dreymon, by viewing key items used in the show, including Uhtred's outfits, his shield, and his iconic sword.

The Castle's Rich History

Bamburgh Castle has stood on Northumberland's coastline for over 1,400 years, spanning nine acres. It is one of Britain's largest occupied castles and was purchased by inventor and industrialist George Armstrong in 1894. Armstrong transformed the castle, and it now houses his collection of artwork and ceramics. The fortress has been home to monarchs from Henry VI to James I and was the first castle in the world to fall to gunpowder during the War of the Roses. Its recorded history dates back to 547 AD.

Exhibition Details

The exhibition is held daily in the King's Hall and is included in the standard admission fee. Visitors can also explore the State Rooms, Armoury, and Keep. Tickets can be purchased online via the Bamburgh Castle website or at the entrance. The exhibition runs until 1 November 2026.

Connection to The Last Kingdom

Author Bernard Cornwell drew inspiration from real events for The Saxon Stories, on which the Netflix series is based. Some episodes depict historical conflicts, such as the Scottish siege of Bebbanburg. The series concludes with Uhtred's quest to reclaim his ancestral home, with battle scenes filmed at Bamburgh Castle. According to a representative from Bamburgh Castle, the exhibition offers compelling photographic opportunities, including a chance to sit on the Wessex throne.

The Last Kingdom is available on Netflix.
