Anton Du Beke has been given an 'exciting opportunity' as he takes on a new role away from Strictly Come Dancing. The show judge, and former longest-serving professional dancer in the BBC One dance contest, will join the upcoming UK tour of Ballet Shoes, starring as two characters in the "beautiful and joyful production".
Anton, 60, joins the acclaimed stage adaptation of Noel Streatfeild's classic 1936 children's novel of the same name, which is about female ambition and identity, and the power of chosen family. The National Theatre production revolves around palaeontologist Great-Uncle Matthew who adopts three orphaned girls who pursue their individual ambitions after joining a dance and drama academy.
A new challenge as actor
Anton, who will soon be back on screens as Strictly returns to the BBC for its 2026 run, will play the eccentric Great-Uncle Matthew, as well as retired Russian ballerina Madame Fidolia, who runs the dance academy where the adoptive daughters train.
"I took my family to see Ballet Shoes at the National Theatre, and I completely fell in love with the show," he said. "It was such a beautiful, joyful production, and when I was given the opportunity to be part of it, I jumped at the chance."
"I couldn't wait to step into that world and be a part of the magic. It gives me an exciting opportunity to test myself further as an actor – and dance and family are at the core, the two most important things to me."
Tour dates and venues
The production was adapted for the stage by Kendall Feaver and directed by Katy Rudd, and has been met with widespread critical acclaim since it premiered in 2024. The upcoming tour will commence in August 2027 and will run until January 2028.
Anton will perform in 11 venues with shows in Manchester, London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Bristol, with further casting to be announced.
