Ansu Fati, the former Barcelona prodigy now at Monaco, has released a song titled 'Sea Como Sea' as a form of therapy to navigate the ups and downs of his career. The track, which means 'Whatever It Takes', has amassed over 1.1 million views on YouTube.
Early Promise and Heavy Expectations
Fati burst onto the scene in 2019, becoming the youngest player this century to score and assist in the same La Liga match at just 16 years and 318 days old. His potential was such that he was handed the No. 10 jersey after Messi's departure in 2021.
However, his career has been hampered by injuries, including a meniscus tear in 2020 that sidelined him for nine months. Consistent muscle problems followed, and a loan spell at Brighton in the 2023/2024 season yielded four goals in 27 games.
Music as an Outlet
Fati has turned to music to help him through tough periods. He said: “Singing is a hobby. I’ve always loved music, and people who know me know it’s something I’ve had since I was a child. But football is my passion, and I can’t compare it to anything, I have several songs I’m working on, and the idea is to release them soon.”
He added: “Sometimes when you’re alone, you just start writing and they just came out. I had some tough periods where it helped me get out of that rut.”
Support from Teammates
Fati has received encouragement from fellow Barcelona heirs, including Lamine Yamal. He shared his music with Gavi, Lamine, Alejandro Balde, and Ronald Araujo, who pushed him to release it. Fati said: “It would be a dream to one day be able to sing in front of so many people and show them my songs.”
On the song's meaning, he said: “A lot of people ask me if this song Sea Como Sea is about a girl or what. I’m not going to say. It’s a concept – everyone can interpret it as they feel it, as they feel at that moment. But basically it’s that with hard work and dedication you can achieve whatever you want, no matter what.”
New Chapter at Monaco
Fati won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and one Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona. He scored 29 goals for the Catalan giants and once had a €1 billion release clause. Monaco paid £9.3m for him.
Reflecting on his move, he told AS: “The truth is that when I signed with Monaco, I felt both sadness and joy. I spent many years at Barça and left behind friends and people from La Masia. The first few days were sad, but that's life. You have to accept what comes and keep looking forward.”
Fati has yet to play a minute in Monaco's pre-season as he prepares for the Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on August 23. After scoring 12 times for the French side last season, he looks to be on the right path.
