The film follows a young woman arrested for allegedly plotting a violent fantasy against her ex-boyfriend's new wife, but the truth reveals a web of lies orchestrated by the ex-boyfriend himself.
Where is Ian Diaz now?
Ian Diaz, a former U.S. Marshal, and his new wife Angela repeatedly reported threatening emails to police. However, digital forensic specialists from the Department of Justice discovered that the menacing messages, sent under the pseudonym Lilithistruth, originated from Ian's computer. He also created Craigslist ads under Michelle's identity, soliciting men to enact a violent fantasy involving his wife, instructing them to ignore any screams. Angela participated and even called 911 to report fake assaults.
Ian's marriage to Angela was annulled in April 2017 after her conviction. He was arrested in May 2021, pleaded not guilty, but was found guilty of stalking, perjury, and obstruction of justice. He is serving a 10-year federal prison term in Texas, and his employment with the U.S. Marshals Service was terminated in 2023. He sold the condo in 2016 while Michelle was jailed, and she never recovered her down payment.

Michelle Hadley endured 88 days of imprisonment due to Ian and Angela's false allegations. After her exoneration, she sued the city of Anaheim and its police department for disregarding evidence. The judge ruled that a competent investigator would have found no probable cause. She received a substantial settlement, reportedly approaching $2 million.
Around the time of Ian's conviction, Michelle gave birth to a daughter. She said: "My life has been filled by strange, often symbolic, and sometimes beautiful coincidences like this. My daughter represents my rainbow after a very long storm, and my heart has never felt so full."
