Myleene Klass has spoken of her pride and emotion after taking her eldest daughter, Ava, to university over the weekend. The 47-year-old broadcaster described the moment as bittersweet, having raised Ava and her younger sister Hero, 14, as a single mother since her split from Graham Quinn in 2013.
In an Instagram post after dropping off her 18-year-old daughter, Klass admitted she struggled to hold back tears. She wrote about the "single mum journey" and that she often wondered if she could get Ava to this point alone, adding: "I never should have worried, we smashed it."
Klass said the day was a flurry of activity as she and her partner Ryan Smith loaded a borrowed car with Ava's belongings, including an air fryer, hairdryer and electric guitar. She helped her daughter settle into her accommodation, putting up fairy lights and making her bed before racing to get last-minute supplies. She described the feeling of driving away and looking at the empty passenger seat, saying it "reverberates through your entire soul" but also brought motherly joy and pride.
She also reached out to other parents experiencing the same milestone, writing: "Mama's dropping off this week, I see you. I'm driving home with you." Klass has been open about her past, and earlier this year spoke about the breakdown of her relationship with Quinn, recalling walking in on him with a famous person on her birthday on a balcony. She said she has made peace with that situation but for a long time it was very difficult.
For now, Klass is focused on celebrating her daughter's achievements, describing Ava's university move as "a day that will stay with me forever."
