Supermodel Christy Turlington and her husband, filmmaker Ed Burns, celebrated a major milestone this week as their daughter, Grace Burns, graduated from New York University. The 22-year-old model and poet completed her studies at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, balancing academics with a burgeoning modeling career.
Turlington, 57, shared the news on Instagram, posting photos of herself embracing Grace in a purple graduation gown, as well as a family shot with Burns. In the caption, she wrote: 'What a week - and what a milestone. As a mother and as a parent, this moment feels profound. So many hopes and dreams for my firstborn are unfolding far sooner than I ever imagined.'
Grace began modeling at 18, following strict instructions from her mother. 'I was officially allowed to begin modeling at 18; that was the age my mom always had in mind, and I wouldn't have it any other way,' she told HOMMES Magazine in 2022. Her runway debut came in June 2023 at the British Vogue X LuisaViaRoma show in Italy, and she has since appeared in campaigns for Kate Spade, Moynat, and Re/Done, among others.
Despite her own success as a model, Turlington initially discouraged Grace from following the same path. 'I told her to stay far away from that,' she told People in 2024. However, she expressed pride in Grace's academic pursuits, including a poetry book titled Derived from Us. Turlington and Burns also have a son, Finn, 20, and have strived to raise their children away from the spotlight, avoiding red-carpet events to maintain a normal family life.
