Music Teacher Receives Lifetime Ban Following Classroom Sex Act with Volunteer
A music teacher has been permanently barred from the profession after a school volunteer performed a sexual act on him within his classroom, mere days after he commenced his new position. Louis Davies, aged 39, engaged in the inappropriate liaison with the woman, described as a 'young adult', at Sturminster Newton High School in Dorset during September 2024.
Inappropriate Encounter During School Hours
The incident occurred as pupils were traversing the corridor outside for morning registration, highlighting the brazen nature of the misconduct. Davies, who had only joined the school at the term's commencement, had previously sent the volunteer a photograph depicting the underside of his classroom desk, accompanied by sexually explicit messages, prior to the physical encounter.
The inappropriate act was uncovered when a pupil informed staff that the volunteer had inquired if her lipstick was smudged because 'she had just [performed a sex act] on Mr Davies in his classroom'. This revelation triggered an immediate investigation into the teacher's conduct.
Initial Denials and Subsequent Admissions
Davies initially denied any physical contact with the volunteer but later conceded during the school's internal investigation that they had 'shared a very quick kiss' in the music room. He also admitted to exchanging sexualised images and messages with her outside of school hours, which included discussions of an explicit nature.
The teacher was dismissed for gross misconduct on September 23, 2024, a mere 22 days after starting the role. A Teaching Regulation Agency panel subsequently imposed a lifetime ban from teaching, a decision endorsed by the Secretary of State.
Detailed Tribunal Findings
The tribunal heard that the volunteer, referred to as Individual A, approached a student known as Pupil A before morning registration on September 13, 2024. The pair had been close friends for approximately twelve months. Individual A asked Pupil A about her lipstick before disclosing the sexual act with Davies.
Pupil A provided a written statement indicating that Individual A also claimed the teacher had 'played with her underwear underneath her dress' in his classroom. The student was shown messages from Davies, including the desk photograph.
Safeguarding Failures and Investigation
During the investigation, it emerged that Davies had failed to report a crucial safeguarding concern. He recalled that Individual A had confessed to engaging in sexual intercourse with a teacher at another school, which he did not flag to school authorities. This omission was deemed a serious breach of safeguarding protocols.
The matter was formally referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer on September 18, with a follow-up meeting on September 23 confirming the allegations as substantiated, leading to Davies' immediate dismissal.
Panel's Assessment of Conduct and Remorse
The TRA panel noted that Davies altered his account during the investigation, initially denying contact before admitting to the kiss and messages. He expressed being 'devastated that my trust has been broken' and blocked Individual A on all platforms.
However, the panel concluded that his distress centred primarily on the breach of trust with the volunteer rather than the impact on pupils and colleagues. They found he demonstrated 'only limited insight and remorse' and failed to engage with the TRA proceedings, showing no broader understanding of the safeguarding implications.
The panel determined his actions constituted unacceptable professional conduct that could bring the teaching profession into disrepute, warranting the lifetime prohibition. Sturminster Newton High School, rated Good in its latest Ofsted inspection, is located in the picturesque Blackmore Vale valley market town.
