A teenage pupil has been found dead at Eton College in Windsor, with Thames Valley Police describing the incident as “unexplained but non-suspicious”. The boy, who has not been named, was discovered on Friday as the school day began, according to the Mail on Sunday.
In a statement, Eton College said: “It is with the greatest sadness that Eton College can confirm one of our boys has died while at school. Our priority is to support his family and respect their privacy, as well as to support his friends and the wider school community. Therefore we will be making no further statement at this time.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We are preparing a file for the coroner after an unexplained but non-suspicious death in Windsor on Friday, February 27. His next of kin are aware and we have offered them our support at this difficult time. We would ask that their privacy is respected at what is an extremely difficult time for them.”
The Berkshire boarding school, where fees are around £63,000 a year, houses more than 1,300 pupils aged 13 to 18 in 25 boarding houses. It is not yet known whether the boy was found in his room or elsewhere on the estate.
Founded in 1440, Eton College counts among its alumni Prince William, Prince Harry, former prime ministers Boris Johnson and David Cameron, and numerous actors and authors.
