Michelle Obama to Speak at Charity Dinner in Edinburgh

Former US first lady Michelle Obama is set to speak at a charity dinner in Edinburgh, following in the footsteps of her husband Barack Obama, who addressed a similar event in 2017. The dinner, organised by the Hunter Foundation, will raise funds for charities across Scotland.

Michelle Obama, the first African American first lady, will share her experiences from her time in the White House. Sir Tom Hunter, founder of the Hunter Foundation, described it as 'more than an honour' to welcome her. He noted her journey from a brick bungalow in Chicago to the White House as an epic, historic journey.

During her eight years as first lady, Michelle Obama championed women's rights, tackled childhood obesity, and supported veterans alongside Jill Biden. Her Reach Higher programme encouraged young people to pursue education beyond high school.

The event is expected to draw a similar crowd to the 1,200 people who attended President Obama's speech in 2017. All proceeds will be invested in Scottish charities, the foundation confirmed.
