Hollywood icon Barbara Eden, best known for her title role in the 1960s sitcom I Dream of Jeannie, marked her 95th birthday on August 23. Despite her age, the actress shows no signs of slowing down and continues to work, regularly attending red carpet events, comic book conventions, and screenings.
Still active in Hollywood
In June, Eden was spotted at Project Angel Food's Lead With Love event at KTLA 5 Studios, wearing a white suit and a sapphire-blue blouse. Earlier in the year, she attended the 26th Annual Beverly Hills Film Festival at the TCL Chinese Theatre in California.
Given the enduring legacy of I Dream of Jeannie, Eden has continued to honor the show. In May, she agreed to be interviewed about her late co-star and on-screen love interest, Larry Hagman, for a documentary about his career.
Honoring Larry Hagman
Following the shoot, Eden shared her thoughts on Instagram. "As you know, Larry was my co-star and 'Master' from our hit TV sitcom 'I Dream of Jeannie,' but he was so much more than that," she wrote. "Larry and I had such on-screen chemistry, unlike anyone else I've ever worked with. I'm so glad I was able to be part of this and share my memories and stories."
In 2025, on the 60th anniversary of the show's debut, Eden took part in several interviews and celebrations. Reflecting on that period, she told BuzzFeed in September 2025: "It was a wonderful time in my life. The happiest, I guess! I didn't really honour that feeling after I finished the show because I was doing so many other things, and I wasn't thinking of the past. But now that I am 'so many' years old, I look back, and that's like the little gem in the middle of my life."
Personal life and loss
Away from show business, Eden remains married to her husband of 35 years, real estate developer Jon Eicholtz. She has also spoken openly about the loss of her son, Matthew, whom she shared with her first husband, Michael Ansara. Matthew died on June 25, 2001, at age 35, of an accidental heroin overdose.
"When Matthew was clean and sober, he was such a beautiful human being, inside and out," Eden told People in 2021. "Drugs are inexplicable. It's so frustrating."
While Eden admitted there is no way to "cope" with the tragic loss of a child, the 95-year-old continues to take life one day at a time. "I'm really lucky," she said. "I have dear friends, I have a wonderful family, a very supportive husband. A dog who is adorable, but a brat! Yes, I'm very happy. I think life, everything, has to work itself out."
