Prince Harry reveals Archie's plea over new UK school

Prince Harry has revealed that his son, Prince Archie, made a plea about his new UK school as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first joint public appearance since returning to the UK. Speaking to children at the Community Recording Studio (CRS) in Nottingham, Harry shared an exchange with Archie about starting a new school.

Archie's maths plea

Harry admitted that Archie made a royal plea when he was told the family would be returning to the UK and he would be starting a new school. Speaking to the children, Prince Harry said: "You know, most people don't like math. My son turned around to me and said, 'Can I go to a school that doesn't do math?' I said, 'It doesn't exist.'"

"And then he went to this new school, and on the first day in the first class, guess what it was? Math!"

Return to Nottingham

The couple were greeted by cheering crowds as they made three appearances in one day in Nottingham, the city they visited after announcing their engagement in December 2017. They spent 25 minutes at the Community Recording Studio, a youth and community charity, meeting people, shaking hands and posing for selfies.

The visit came weeks after the King issued a letter stating Harry and Meghan remained non-working royals and should be treated as private individuals as the couple embarked on public events. The couple returned to the UK after spending six years in America in late August.

School move and security concerns

After returning to the UK, Archie and Lilibet started a new school, but just two days later, the children were moved following security concerns over the school run. Sources close to the couple stressed that there was no problem with the school itself, with concerns instead focused on the practicalities and security of getting the children there and back each day.

Heavy traffic in the area and the distance between the school and the family's current home are understood to have put pressure on their small private security team. One incident reportedly made it difficult for their vehicles to remain together in convoy, prompting further concerns about whether the school run could be carried out safely.

A spokesman for Harry and Meghan said: "The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family's security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements."

"The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."

Now the children have moved school, there are no longer security and logistical concerns regarding their commute. A few weeks into the term, Harry said things are going "great." The children's new school is just a short drive from their temporary home, avoiding built-up areas. The Mirror is not identifying the schools or the family's location.
