A British urban explorer has uncovered a chilling scene inside an abandoned Japanese school, where homework remains pinned to walls, school bags sit on desks, and a ghostly figure appears in photographs. Ben, a 30-year-old content creator from Cambridge, explored the derelict building during a work trip and was struck by how untouched it was.
“The place is quite creepy because it is completely untouched. There are still the school bags on desks, homework on the walls, awards on the walls, even the dead plants in biology,” Ben told What's the Jam. The school sits alone on the outskirts of a rural town, frozen in time since the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami disaster, which claimed over 18,000 lives.
Ben initially believed he was alone, having called out and checked all rooms before taking photos. However, upon reviewing his images, he noticed a black-and-white figure in the hallway. “It looked like a spirit. I just felt really weird after seeing it,” he said. He added that Japanese beliefs hold that spirits remain where they belong.
The explorer described the atmosphere as “very, very eerie,” noting that there was no one else present and he would never have taken a photo if someone had been approaching. This discovery follows Ben's recent exploration of an abandoned jail in Florida, which he likened to scenes from The Walking Dead.
