Five Florida Students Hospitalised After Eating THC Gummies at School
Florida Students Hospitalised After Eating THC Gummies

Multiple pupils required urgent medical care after ingesting cannabis-laced sweets at a secondary school in Florida, authorities have confirmed.

Emergency Response at Stranahan High

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue teams were dispatched to Stranahan High School on Wednesday morning following reports that several students had fallen ill. Officials from Broward County Public Schools stated the pupils "appeared to have an adverse reaction to ingesting gummies" and were transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.

While the school district reported five students were taken for treatment, local fire services told The Independent that four were transported. The precise origin of the edibles and how they were brought onto school grounds remains under investigation.

'Out of Body' Experience Described by Teen

The mother of a 14-year-old girl who was hospitalised, Tshura Jones, revealed her daughter believed the products were merely sweets. "I got the message at 9:21 a.m. stating, 'Mom, can I come home? I'm not feeling well,'" Jones told local broadcaster WSVN.

The teenager described the gummies, which came in a green bag, as tasting like ordinary candy. She witnessed another pupil lose consciousness in the classroom. "I was scared," she said, characterising the effect as an "out of body experience." Jones confirmed her daughter's toxicology screen tested positive for marijuana.

Another student, Brandon Jordan, saw the incident unfold. "It's like different colours and it looked like regular candy, but 10 minutes later, they just passed out. I was like, 'Wow,'" he recounted to the news outlet.

Disciplinary Action and Ongoing Probe

The students involved now face potential disciplinary consequences following the serious breach of school rules. A district spokesperson said the incident is being thoroughly investigated and that Stranahan High "will take appropriate action based on the outcome of the investigation."

The event has sparked concern and commentary among the student body. "Students shouldn't be indulging in this type of activity at school," one pupil told reporters. Another offered stark advice to peers: "You don't know where it came from. Don't take it!"

This alarming episode highlights the ongoing challenges schools face regarding the availability of cannabis edibles, which can be easily mistaken for harmless confectionery.
