Channel 4 has announced that the beloved documentary series Educating Yorkshire will return for a second season, premiering on Sunday 31st August at 8pm. The new run will see cameras once again enter Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury, twelve years after the first season captivated audiences in 2014.
The original series was a hit with millions of viewers, largely due to the heartwarming scenes involving teacher Mr Burton, who helped student Musharaf overcome his stammer. In the upcoming season, Mr Burton has taken over as headteacher from Mr Mitchell, and is joined by a new team of staff.
Storylines will explore the challenges faced by today's teenagers, including teenage anxiety, exam pressure, friendship struggles, and the impact of mobile phones and social media. Commissioner Rita Daniels noted that much has changed for British teenagers since the last series, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and the intense pressure to deliver good results.
Educating Yorkshire is part of Channel 4's Educating series, which began with Educating Essex in 2011 and most recently featured Educating Greater Manchester in 2020. The new season promises to offer a fascinating look at how the school and its students have adapted to a rapidly changing world.
