Coety Primary School in Bridgend has received a glowing Estyn inspection report, describing the school as a 'welcoming and nurturing community.' The inspection, carried out by the education and training inspectorate for Wales in April 2026, found that most pupils, including those with additional learning needs, make 'strong progress' from their starting points.
Leadership and Curriculum Praised
The report highlighted the school's 'strong and dynamic' leadership, a positive working environment for staff, and a strong sense of belonging among pupils. Strengths identified include consistent and effective teaching, pupil voice, and an 'interesting and purposeful curriculum' that helps pupils build skills progressively. Leaders and governors work effectively together, sharing a 'strong commitment to continuous improvement.'
Only one recommendation was made: to further improve pupils' confidence and ability to use spoken Welsh outside of dedicated Welsh lessons.
Community Celebration
Chair of governors, Cllr Amanda Williams, said: 'This report is a tremendous achievement for our entire school community and one that we are incredibly proud to celebrate. As chair of governors I have seen first-hand the dedication, care, and commitment shown by our staff, pupils, parents, and governors and it is wonderful to see these efforts recognised by Estyn.'
Cabinet member for education and young people, Cllr Martyn Jones, added: 'This is an excellent inspection outcome for Coety Primary School and everyone involved should be extremely proud.'
Context of Council Success
The positive report comes just weeks after another Estyn report praised Bridgend County Borough Council's education services. Published in March 2026, that report noted the council's effective safeguarding arrangements, inclusive support for learners, and strong partnership working between schools, council services, and partner organisations.
