Ayr SNP MSP Siobhian Brown has welcomed GE Aerospace’s continued commitment to developing local talent and supporting skills development in Ayrshire.
The comments follow a visit to the company’s Prestwick facility, where Ms Brown met with Andrew Prow, Executive and GE Caledonian Site Leader, and Douglas Hill, Strategy Leader, to discuss the company’s apprenticeship programmes and its partnership with Ayrshire College.
Major employer with over 800 staff
GE Aerospace’s Prestwick facility is one of its largest UK maintenance, repair and overhaul sites, employing more than 800 people. The company continues to support the next generation of engineers and technicians through apprenticeships, providing local people with opportunities to gain valuable skills and build long-term careers in the aerospace sector.
The MSP toured the facility and heard how apprentices are supported throughout their training, including through strong links with Ayrshire College, which helps young people and those starting out in their careers gain practical experience and industry-relevant qualifications.

The SNP MSP said: “It was a pleasure to visit GE Aerospace in Prestwick and hear more about the opportunities it provides for local people through its apprenticeship programmes and partnership with Ayrshire College.
“With more than 800 people employed at the site, GE Aerospace is a major local employer, and I was particularly encouraged to hear how the company is helping the next generation of engineers and technicians develop the skills they need to succeed.
“The partnership between GE Aerospace and Ayrshire College is a fantastic example of how education and industry can work together to create opportunities for local people and support successful careers in Ayrshire’s aerospace sector.”
