Kirktonholme Childcare in Airdrie has received a positive inspection report from His Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in Scotland. The nursery will face no further visits from the inspectorate relating to this inspection.
Key Strengths Identified
The report highlighted that the manager and staff have created "a welcoming, respectful nursery community where staff and children learn together". Leadership was described as "impacting positively on the continuous improvement of learning and teaching".
Staff were found to be "highly motivated and committed to ongoing professional learning which is developing a shared understanding of how young children learn". The report stated that staff work very well together and value positive relationships with each other, with children and with their families, leading to "a loving and joyful family ethos".
Areas for Improvement
The staff team also use creative and meaningful approaches to ensure seamless transition into nursery and when moving between playrooms. However, the following areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the manager and a representative from North Lanarkshire Council:
- As planned, continue to develop sustained community partnerships to enrich the curriculum. Staff should build on existing, positive relationships they hold within the community.
- Continue to develop approaches to track children's learning. Staff should ensure next steps are consistently focused and measurable. In doing so, staff should be better placed to evaluate children's progress and ensure appropriate levels of support and challenge.
Conclusion of the Report
The report concluded: "We are confident that the setting has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection." North Lanarkshire Council will inform parents and carers about the setting's progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its settings.
