Nursery worker Vincent Chan admits 26 charges of sexually abusing children
Nursery worker admits filming sexual abuse of children

A nursery worker has admitted to a horrific campaign of sexual abuse against young children, which he filmed at his workplace in north London.

A Pattern of Calculated Abuse

Vincent Chan, 45, pleaded guilty to 26 charges at court today. The charges include five counts of sexual assault on a child by penetration and four counts of sexual assault of a child by touching. He also admitted to making indecent photographs of children, including the most severe Category A images.

Chan used the nursery's own iPads to film himself abusing four girls, some as young as two years old. He then edited the footage into what he described as twisted videos for 'comedic effect'. The court heard his actions represented a 'calculated and predatory pattern of abuse'.

Unmasked After Seven Years

Chan had worked at the nursery for seven years before his crimes were uncovered. He was first arrested in June 2024 after a colleague reported him for filming a child falling asleep in their food, setting it to music, and showing it to others.

He was initially held on suspicion of neglect, lost his job, and was released on bail. The nursery has since closed. Police confirmed Chan had passed advanced vetting to get the job and had previously worked in a school.

The Metropolitan Police stated that the families of the victims have been contacted directly and are receiving specialist support.

Safeguarding Review and Sentencing

A serious review will now be conducted to establish whether strict safeguarding procedures were followed at the nursery. This case raises urgent questions about vetting and oversight in early years education settings.

Chan was re-remanded to custody following his guilty plea and will appear for sentencing at a later date. The full extent of his crimes, captured in his own videos, will be presented to the judge at that hearing.
