The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have visited the regional offices of the World Central Kitchen in Jordan, where they learned about the logistical challenges of feeding a million Palestinians in Gaza.
Harry and Meghan spoke via video call with a distribution leader at one of the organisation's six field kitchens in Gaza, which produce daily hot meals for around 60 per cent of the population. They were told that ochre and rice was the meal for Thursday, described by Wadhah Hubaishi, the response director for the Middle East and North Africa, as "one of our most delicious meals for the Gaza people."
Mr Hubaishi highlighted the need for 20 trucks of supplies every day from Egypt, noting that insufficient numbers were arriving. He shared the organisation's mantra of "food with smiles" provided by Gazans for Gazans, and told the story of a three-year-old boy who asked if he could eat a banana peel, having never seen the fruit before.
Distribution manager Shadi Raed made a video call to the couple, showing them huge pots cooking the day's meal and a neighbouring warehouse, providing further insight into the operation.
