Israeli Airstrikes Kill 30 in Gaza, Including Children and Police Officers

Israel has carried out some of its deadliest airstrikes on Gaza in months, killing at least 30 Palestinians, including children and police officers. The strikes hit a police station in Gaza City, an apartment building, and tent camps for displaced people in Khan Younis, according to Palestinian civil defence and hospital officials.

The Israeli military said the attacks were in response to an incident on Friday when eight armed men emerged from a tunnel in Rafah. The strikes occurred a day before the Rafah border crossing was expected to open as part of the ceasefire deal, highlighting ongoing violence despite the nominal truce.

Among the dead were three children and two women killed in an apartment strike in Gaza City, and seven people killed when tents were bombed in Khan Younis. Samer al-Atbash, uncle of three children killed, told Reuters: 'We found my three little nieces in the street. They say “ceasefire” and all. What did those children do?'

Gaza's health ministry has recorded more than 500 Palestinian deaths since the ceasefire began on 10 October. The ceasefire deal has moved to a second phase, which requires Hamas to disarm and hand over power to a board appointed by US President Donald Trump.
