Jamie Oliver's Air Fryer Hack: Layer Flavors in Seconds
Jamie Oliver's Air Fryer Hack: Layer Flavors

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has revealed a simple air fryer hack that takes only seconds to implement but promises to elevate your cooking. In a 30-second Facebook video, Oliver demonstrates how to cook two items simultaneously by utilizing the space both above and below the air fryer's tray.

The Technique

Oliver explains: "Me and my team pushed the air fryer to its limit - and one of those ways was having thinned cooking of the top of that little tray and having other things reheating at the bottom." He shows viewers how to place herbs and spices at the bottom of the air fryer, then insert the tray and arrange sweet potato on top. This method allows for efficient use of time and energy while enhancing flavor.

He adds: "But if you think about having meat or fish [dripping] onto beans, chickpeas, tomatoes [below], you can really max out flavour and efficiency really fast." The dripping juices from the top layer infuse the lower ingredients, creating a more complex dish without extra effort.

Another fan noted: "Just bought some air fryers for school and your book arrived yesterday... it's beautiful. Looking forward to trying out some of your dishes."

Gordon Ramsay's Egg Tip

Following Oliver's hack, fellow celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay also shared his expert advice for achieving the perfect crispy fried egg with a runny yolk. Ramsay recommends starting with a knob of butter in a frying pan, letting it melt, then reducing the heat and adding salt and pepper before cracking in the egg. The butter and seasonings act as a basting liquid, locking in flavor.

Once the egg is in the pan, increase the temperature and wait for the edges to crisp. For extra punch, Ramsay suggests a sprinkle of chilli flakes (optional). Then, use a spoon to baste the melted butter and seasoning over the yolk, ensuring even cooking. In a YouTube video, Ramsay explained: "All I do now is literally get the butter, shake that [pan] gently, and just baste the egg whites around the yolk. And that helps cook." He added: "Sometimes, with that raw egg white near the yolk, it can feel a bit icky, but the best trick is to use the spoon and lavish your egg with it."

Ramsay concluded: "Now bring [the pan] onto a cold surface that'll help separate, and then underneath, if you want your eggs over easy, you flip that. I like my yolk really nice and runny. When we come to serve, use a spatula to drain off your egg. And there we have a beautiful, stunning, delicious fried egg. Runny yolk, nice crispy delicious egg white and when you finish it with that little touch of chilli flake it elevates that amazing flavour."
