A 15-year-old student at Salesian College, a Catholic boys' school in Chadstone, Melbourne, has been expelled after creating explicit images of a female teacher using artificial intelligence. The incident occurred in May when the student used an AI app to generate the graphic images.
The school launched an immediate investigation and took steps to remove the student. Salesian College has continued to provide support to the affected teacher and stated that it had not received any complaints from parents. However, some parents later expressed shock and anger upon learning of the student's actions.
One parent told the Herald Sun: 'It’s very upsetting that this has occurred and we feel for the teacher involved.' Another parent described AI as 'evil' and expressed concern about the technology's use in such situations.
The incident follows calls from consent campaigner Chanel Contos for all Australian high school students to receive porn literacy classes. Contos described the rate of young teens accessing explicit material as a 'public health issue' and urged school leaders to discuss the dangers of pornography.
In February, over 100 explicit private videos and photos of underage students from various schools were found published on social media without permission. Last year, students were also caught posting doctored pornographic images of teachers online and filming classroom altercations amid rising hostility towards teachers.
