Should I Get Back with My Ex-Wife After Her Split?
Should I Get Back with My Ex-Wife?

A man who divorced his ex-wife a few years ago has been reconnecting with her after she split from the father of her child. When she recently asked him if they could try again, he initially laughed and called it a bad idea, but now he is reconsidering.

Reconnecting After Divorce

The man says the divorce was amicable to a degree, but she drove the separation and he felt she was never fully committed. She met someone else quickly and had a baby. Now that relationship is over, they have met for dinners, coffee dates, and walks in the park with her son.

He enjoys the reconnection and her flirting, but he was surprised when she asked about trying again. He laughed it off, but has been thinking about it since.

Coleen's Advice

Coleen suggests that maybe both have realised what they lost was good, but warns that more talking is needed. They should discuss the baby and the situation with the father, and why she thinks things would be different now. Coleen also notes that the man may worry that she is seeking familiarity and stability after her breakup.

She advises not rushing: “Carry on meeting up and see how things develop. You need to date again like you’ve never been married to work out how you really feel.” She also highlights that parenting can be hard on relationships and asks if he is willing to take that on, and whether she would walk out again during a rough patch.

If he has doubts, Coleen says to trust his gut. He might be missing the familiarity rather than his ex. If serious, she suggests couples counselling.
