A simple kitchen sponge and a squirt of washing-up liquid can transform a grimy shower screen, removing months of built-up limescale and watermarks in just five minutes. The hack, shared by Nicola Roy, uses a non-scratch sponge pad instead of traditional glass cleaners or squeegees.
Why Shower Glass Gets So Grimy
Shower glass is prone to limescale and grime buildup, especially if not cleaned frequently. The combination of hard water and soap scum creates stubborn marks that can make the glass look foggy and unappealing. Many people resort to glass cleaners or kitchen roll, but these often leave streaks or fail to remove deep-set dirt.
The Simple Hack That Works
Roy discovered the method on TikTok. She applied washing-up liquid to the soft side of a kitchen sponge pad, avoiding the rough side to prevent scratching the glass. Using sweeping circular motions, she worked the liquid across the glass, paying extra attention to the bottom where grime accumulates. The marks lifted off instantly, and after rinsing and repeating, the glass looked almost invisible.
She then buffed away any remaining water smears with a clean pad. The entire process took only about five minutes, and the results were better than any glass cleaner she had used before.
Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly Alternative
The sponge pads are inexpensive and reusable. A pack of three costs £6.99 on Amazon, or even less at discount stores like B&M and Home Bargains. This method reduces the need for disposable kitchen roll and harsh chemical cleaners, making it a more sustainable choice.
