A seemingly innocent iPhone app has been exposed as a new tool for infidelity, with experts dubbing it 'the perfect way to cheat.' In a recent episode of the podcast Not As We Planned, hosts Tash and Carly revealed that Apple's shared Notes feature is being used to exchange flirty messages without leaving a trace.
How the Notes App Enables Cheating
'If you suspect your partner is cheating, you don't need to go into their WhatsApp, Snapchat, or emails; you need to go into their notes, specifically their shared notes,' Tash explained. The key advantage for cheaters is that shared notes generate no notifications and leave no obvious digital trail, making it nearly impossible to detect.
Private Investigator Weighs In
Private detective Paul Evans from I-Spy Detectives is not surprised by this trend. 'Cheaters are deceitful by nature, so they will always find a way to cover their tracks,' he said. 'Using the notes app is perfect because normal people wouldn't think to use it as a messaging platform.' Evans has seen multiple cases where cheaters use this method, noting that message dates and times can be deleted without a trace.
Some cheaters take an even more sophisticated approach. 'A person may have an innocent shopping list in their notes app, but one item could be a code word for a location, and a number could be the time they plan to meet,' Evans explained. 'To anyone looking, it wouldn't raise suspicion, but to those involved, it hides the conversation in plain sight.'
Social Media Reactions
TikTok users expressed shock in the podcast's comments. One user, @GeorgieCardy, revealed 'this is how I found out,' while @rachelcxmeron wrote 'a new fear unlocked.'
How to Spot Potential Cheating
Evans advises partners to look for behavior changes rather than snooping through phones. 'If they become protective over their phone, their routine changes, or they suddenly take more care in their appearance, alarm bells should ring,' he said. 'Monitor their behavior and ask direct questions. If something doesn't match up, there's a good chance they are hiding something.'
A sudden spike in screen time on the Notes app could also be a red flag worth discussing.
