A gardener has shared her go-to method for killing weeds on patios and pavements using a simple natural method that costs under £5. Sandra Adams posted in the Gardening Tips UK Facebook group about her success with horticultural vinegar.
The Foolproof Hack
Sandra Adams wrote: "Just thought I'd share the foolproof hack I use in my clients' gardens to get rid of weeds. I usually don't go for natural ingredients, but this specific family had a lot of dogs. I bought some horticultural vinegar and just used that across all the weeds they had in the paving. The weeds were gone within hours, and shrivelled up instantly."
Horticultural vinegar contains concentrated acetic acid, typically 10-20%, far stronger than household vinegar. It kills weeds quickly but can also harm desired plants, so careful application is needed.
Cost and Availability
Sandra noted: "It was so cheap, too. I got around 5L for under £5, and I don't think I'll use anything besides this and my hands to get rid of weeds again." Fellow gardeners responded enthusiastically, with Tim Johnson saying he would pick some up from the garden centre.
Application Tips
Always follow manufacturer guidelines, as some products need diluting while others can be used straight from the bottle. Other methods include pulling weeds, boiling water, or salt, but care must be taken to avoid damaging nearby plants.
