A charity shop worker has shared the thrifting mistake that prevents people from finding the "best used clothes." Stacey, known as Queen of Preloved on TikTok, says many shoppers complain they only find "tat" but the real problem is their approach.
Consistency Is Key
Stacey explained: "If you're going into the same charity shops over and over - the same few - and you are only going every so often then you're not going to find stuff." She emphasized that charity shops differ from high street stores: "You can go in on a Tuesday and find nothing and go in on a Wednesday and find everything." According to her, visiting once a month is not enough.
Rummaging and Open-Mindedness
Another common mistake is not rummaging through all rails regardless of size. Stacey noted that vintage sizing differs from standard UK sizing, so shoppers need to know their measurements and try items on. She also urged shoppers to be open-minded about how clothes can be worn, as charity shop finds may not always align with mainstream fashion.
"It's not true that charity shops are full of tat," Stacey said. "There are so many good items you can pick up if you stick to a few rules."
Additional Tips
To maximize chances of finding hidden gems, experts suggest asking store volunteers which days they sort incoming stock and visiting shortly after. Regular visits are crucial since inventory changes daily. A quick glance around the shop often reveals new items.
