If you're struggling to sleep in the heat, there are a couple of things you can do to keep cool at night - and they won't cost you a penny. With temperatures predicted to climb above 30C, the UK is bracing itself for some restless nights ahead.
Tip 1: Use a Frozen Water Bottle on Pulse Points
The first thing I do whenever temperatures start climbing is keep a bottle of water in the freezer. Come bedtime, I remove the bottle from the freezer and position it on my pulse points. These are areas of the body where major arteries sit close to the skin's surface, including the wrists, inner thighs, and neck, reports the Express. When you apply ice to these spots, it cools the blood circulating around your body and can swiftly bring your temperature down. You can wrap the bottle in a pillowcase to prevent it dripping water on you.
You can also use a hot water bottle rather than a drinking bottle, but if you opt for this it's absolutely crucial you don't use the same hot water bottle in winter. If you've frozen it, and then attempt to fill it with hot water, it heightens the risk of leaks and burns.
Tip 2: Keep a Spray Bottle in the Fridge
Another brilliant, cost-free way to beat the heat is to keep a spray bottle of water in the fridge. If you're really struggling, lightly spritzing yourself with ice-cold water can bring your body temperature down and help you drift off to sleep more easily. Just make sure your bottle has a mist setting and don't go overboard — nobody wants to wake up with damp bed sheets.
