A 16-year-old boy has been found guilty of the manslaughter of Teon Campbell-Pitter, 16, who was stabbed outside a boxing gym in New Cross, south-east London. The incident occurred on 13 April in Fordham Park, where Teon was attacked just before 16:00 BST.
The jury at the Old Bailey heard that Teon was confronted by two youths outside the Double Jab Boxing Club. A scuffle broke out, and one of the youths stabbed Teon in the groin with a knife, which was never recovered. The wound was 4.7 inches (12cm) deep.
The first defendant, who wielded the fatal blow, admitted carrying a blade but claimed self-defence. He was found guilty of manslaughter but not guilty of murder. The second defendant, accused of encouraging and assisting, was cleared of all charges.
Teon's family expressed shock and upset at the verdicts. One family member declared in court: 'People can kill anyone... Let that be on your head, seriously.'
The prosecutor, Sally O'Neill KC, told the court there had been 'ill feeling' between Teon and the first youth, stemming from a 'year-long grudge'. The first defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, was remanded into custody and will be sentenced on 10 March.
