A teenager accused of a 2022 murder in Kansas City, Missouri, has made a staggering claim to detectives, stating he has been involved in shootings affecting roughly 400 people during his life.
The Fatal Incident on a Jackson County Highway
Daimon Benson, now aged 19, is charged with second-degree murder and other offences linked to the death of a woman found in her car on 21 October 2022. Police discovered the victim in a white Toyota Camry that had collided with a concrete barrier on a highway in Jackson County after responding to reports of gunfire.
The woman, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, was later pronounced dead in hospital. An examination of the vehicle revealed a bullet hole in the trunk and another in the front driver's side window, which was partially shattered.
Chase and Gunfire Preceded Crash
According to the Jackson County Prosecutor's office, detectives established that a grey Dodge Charger had pursued the Toyota after the car cut it off. Benson, allegedly a passenger in the Charger, is accused of firing shots into the Toyota. Following the shooting, the Toyota crashed, and the Charger fled the scene.
Multiple witnesses corroborated events. One individual who stopped to assist told investigators they saw the driver "leaning over inside the vehicle and bleeding from her face." Two others reported hearing several gunshots before observing the white Toyota swerve and hit the barrier.
Astonishing Admission to Detectives
During questioning, Benson reportedly told detectives he did not recall the specific incident. However, he then made an extraordinary statement about his past. When asked how many people he had shot in his life, Benson replied, "Roughly like, my whole life, like 400 people."
Elaborating further, as per court documents, Benson said that during 2019 and 2020, he and an accomplice robbed an average of three people daily, resulting in approximately 150 of those shootings. He described the remainder as "battles" with rivals, claiming there were about ten instances per month where he or someone in his vehicle would shoot at someone outside the car.
Benson is currently being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond. A bond hearing was scheduled for Thursday, according to local reports. It is not publicly known if he has secured legal representation.
