A 17-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being viciously attacked by a friend's dog in Singleton, Australia. Annalyse Blyton suffered severe injuries to her face, neck, and back when the large mixed-breed dog mauled her as she was leaving a friend's house after studying.
Bystanders rushed to pull the animal off the teenager before emergency services arrived. Police later euthanised the dog to allow medics to continue treatment. Annalyse was airlifted to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
Her mother, Lauren, has pleaded with her daughter to 'keep fighting,' saying she has so much love and support. Acting Hunter Valley Police Commander Justin Cornes praised the passers-by for their bravery, stating they provided first aid and stemmed bleeding before paramedics arrived.
Singleton Mayor Sue Moore said the community is 'reeling' from the attack and thanked everyone who helped. The dog's owners described the attack as 'out of character.'
The incident follows the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy in Danville, USA, who was attacked by his family dog while in the care of his teenage sister. That dog was seized and the incident remains under investigation.
