Teenager in Critical Condition After Sheffield Shooting
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a shooting incident in Sheffield left a 16-year-old boy fighting for his life. The suspect was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Police Response and Investigation
Officers were called to London Road in Sheffield at 5.15pm on Monday evening following reports of a shooting. The victim was discovered with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound and was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
A road closure was implemented on London Road to allow detectives, officers, and forensic teams to gather evidence. The closure has since been lifted.
Appeals for Information from the Community
Sheffield superintendent Martin Simcock expressed his dismay, stating: “Gun crime, and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire, and the fact that a young boy is fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated.”
He urged anyone with information to contact the police, emphasising that even the smallest detail could be crucial. “This boy and his family deserve answers, and we are committed to getting them,” Mr Simcock added.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight echoed this sentiment, assuring residents that a dedicated team is working tirelessly on the case. “This is a terrible incident that has left a boy fighting for his life and I know those in our community will be deeply concerned,” she said.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 101, quoting incident number 640, or to get in touch via their online channels.
