A charity shop worker known as Stacey, who shares thrifting tips on TikTok under the name Queen of Preloved, has disclosed the one used item she would never buy: knickers. In a candid video, she explained that despite her willingness to purchase bras if they are clean and in good condition, she draws the line at underwear due to the imagery and hygiene concerns.
Stacey's Disclosure
Stacey stated: "Here's what I wouldn't buy from a charity shop. Knickers. I just wouldn't buy knickers, because that's obvious. I mean, you do you, if you don't mind sticking them through the washer. It's just the imagery - the fact that someone has, you know - and I will buy bras if the elastic is good, if they are clean, if they are a good shape. I will buy bras." She added that she also avoids used water bottles, particularly those with straws, unless they are brand new with tags.
Viewer Reactions
The clip sparked discussion among viewers, with one commenting: "I wouldn't buy any kitchen appliances like mixers or blenders etc. It just gives me the ick." Another noted: "We do get new underwear in the shop I volunteer in. We had a Stanley cup on Saturday, used. Got £15 within 30 minutes of putting it out." A third wrote: "Ew, same. I don't put out knickers, bras or tights unless all brand new with tags. Swimwear I am fussy. Give them a good check. If any doubt, chuck it out."
Charity Shop Policies
In most cases, donating used underwear to standard high street charity shops is not permitted due to strict hygiene and safety regulations. Exceptions exist for brand-new items with tags, specialist charities, and textile recycling schemes. Some local or independent shops may accept unworn underwear with original tags, so it is advisable to check with the specific shop before donating. Used water bottles are also often refused on hygiene grounds, though new ones may be accepted.
