Good Morning Britain aired a major update following an incident at Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Saturday (October 10). It has been confirmed that the park will reopen days after a man was mauled to death by a tiger. The man was killed by one of the tigers after he climbed into the enclosure.
Eyewitnesses describe the incident
Correspondent Katy Rickett shared further details on the story, describing it as an "utter tragedy". She continued: "The police have not yet named the man who was involved but there were a number of eyewitnesses there on Saturday, with many describing him as a man in his 20s."
"They say he was dancing and listening to music and he can be heard in the background of somebody's video of the tiger asking for pictures of himself with it in the background. But what happened next is what really shocked visitors. He jumped 12 feet into the enclosure, despite one woman saying she desperately tried to stop him."
Police urge public not to share videos
She added that police are urging anyone with videos of the incident not to post them online. Despite attempts to scare the tiger away by firing shots, it was too late for the man. Katy revealed one expert said he stood less than one per cent chance of surviving.
Pointing out the fact that only toys or food would be the only things put in the enclosure, Katy said this is why many people are also concerned about the welfare of the tiger – a five-year-old Siberian tiger named Alte.
Videos circulating online appear to show a man being pawed at and grappled by Altai in the tiger enclosure at the park, near Doncaster. He was pronounced dead at the scene, South Yorkshire Police have said, adding that his family were informed.
