A woman has been stabbed to death by an alleged stalker colleague while working at a store in Soacha, Colombia. Rosa Mayerly Olaya Coronado, 31, was attacked with a knife during her shift on Sunday, July 12, 2026. Despite being rushed to hospital, she died from her injuries.
Attack Details
The incident occurred around 3:15 pm at a store in Soacha, a city near Bogotá. CCTV footage shows the attacker stabbing Coronado multiple times, despite efforts from bystanders to intervene. Police arrested the suspect, identified as Óscar Giovanny Marulanda, at the scene. Soacha Mayor Julián Sánchez confirmed the attack, stating: "The victim, Rosa Mayerly Coronado, was at work and was attacked with a sharp weapon resulting in multiple wounds in different parts of her body. She was transferred to the hospital of Soacha, where unfortunately she died due to the severity of her injuries."
Suspect and Motive
Authorities initially reported that the suspect was Coronado's ex-partner, but her sister, Maira Yulieth Caballero, refuted this on social media. Caballero said Marulanda was a colleague who allegedly had psychiatric problems and had become obsessed with her sister. She urged the public to correct the misinformation out of respect for Coronado's memory and called for a thorough investigation.
Community Response
Soacha City Hall announced it would provide support to Coronado's family through the Ministry of Social Development. Mayor Sánchez condemned the violence, saying the municipality would not tolerate violence against women and that the perpetrator should face the full weight of the law. The investigation is ongoing.
