Woman Kidnapped by Rickshaw Driver in Gang-Rape Ordeal

Police in India are investigating an alleged gang-rape after a 43-year-old widow was kidnapped and assaulted by four men in a rickshaw. The victim reported that she was returning home from administrative tasks in Tauru, near Nuh in northern India, when she boarded a rickshaw. According to the Tribune, instead of taking her to Satlaka, the driver stopped, three passengers got out to keep guard, and the driver pulled down the curtains and attacked her.

Victim Threatened and Escapes

The woman was told she would be killed if she screamed. However, she managed to break free and escape when the suspects were distracted by the sound of a motorbike. After the attack, the gang allegedly taunted the victim, trying to intimidate her into silence.

Arrests and Investigation

Four men have been arrested and charged with rape following the incident on June 26, 2026. Inspector Chanderbhan of Tauru police confirmed that an investigation into the attack is ongoing.

This case comes after a 12-year-old girl was found dead in a pond after being gang-raped while on her way to a shop in Baruipur, West Bengal. Two men have been arrested. The incident on July 5 triggered protests. Inspector General of Police Kankar Prasad Barui stated: 'The situation is under control. A large police picket has been deployed and no one involved in this heinous crime will be spared. We will ensure that all the accused are arrested and the strongest possible punishment is sought.'
