A woman has been found dead at a block of flats in Stalybridge following concerns for welfare.

Emergency response

Emergency services were called to reports of concern for welfare at an address on High Street in the Tameside town at around 2.30pm on Friday, August 28.

Greater Manchester Police said that a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Scene details

Pictures from the scene show numerous police cars outside a block of flats on Friday afternoon. Witnesses also reported seeing an air ambulance landing on a grass verge at Quarry Rise.

Police statement

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 2.30pm on Friday 28 August, we were called to a concern for welfare at an address on High Street in Stalybridge.

"Emergency services attended but sadly, a woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"It is believed there are no suspicious circumstances surround her death."
