Woman Dies in M62 Wrong-Way Crash; Motorway Closed

A woman in her 50s has died following a horror crash on the M62 in Greater Manchester, after reportedly driving in the wrong direction. The incident occurred at around 11pm on Saturday, July 11, between junctions 21 and 22 near Rochdale.

Details of the Collision

Emergency services attended the scene after a grey Nissan Juke collided with a grey BMW X5 on the eastbound carriageway. The woman driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Greater Manchester Police, it is believed she was driving the wrong way down the carriageway at the time of the crash.

Injuries and Investigation

The driver and passengers of the BMW sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. No arrests have been made, but an investigation has been launched by GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU). The motorway remains closed this morning for collision investigation work.
