A 21-year-old woman died in Brazil after workers at a bungee-jumping event threw her from a bridge without attaching the safety cord. The incident occurred at Skeleton Bridge in Limeira, Sao Paulo state, local authorities confirmed.
Harrowing Incident
Footage shows the moment the woman was thrown from the bridge, totally unaware she was not secured to the cable. The elastic rope, which supports thrill-seekers during their jump, was not attached. Disturbing video shared on social media showed team members carrying her to the platform before she is thrown over the side, followed by people shouting about the rope.
Investigation Launched
The Military Police said she was participating in a bungee jump activity organised by a private company. Emergency services attended the scene, who could only certify the death. Her body was transferred to the Legal Medical Institute. Her fiancé, who was also at the bridge, was taken for medical attention after becoming ill upon learning of her death.
Social Media Post
The woman uploaded a tragic social media post just minutes before her death. Posting a photo of the scene on Instagram, she wrote: “Who was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge???”
Legal Action
The case is being investigated by the Civil Police, who will determine whether anyone involved will face criminal charges. The Limeira City Council has confirmed it will file a complaint against the Brazilian federal government. Mayor Murilo Félix stated: "It is necessary to determine responsibility for the lack of access control to a federal area that has presented known risks for years and still lacks the necessary protection measures."
