A woman in her 50s has died following a collision on the M62 in Rochdale after her car was driven in the wrong direction on the motorway, police have confirmed.
Crash Details
Greater Manchester Police said officers were called at around 11pm on Saturday, July 11, to reports of an incident between Junction 21 and 22 of the M62. A grey Nissan Juke collided with a grey BMW X5 on the eastbound carriageway.
The force stated: “It is believed the Nissan was travelling in the wrong direction on the eastbound carriageway prior to the collision.” The driver of the Nissan, a woman in her 50s, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Underway
Police have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward as they investigate the circumstances of the crash. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
The M62 is a major motorway connecting Liverpool and Hull, and the section near Rochdale sees significant traffic. The incident caused disruption overnight, but the carriageway has since reopened.
