A 45-year-old woman has died after allegedly being struck by an Audi in Airdrie. Emergency services attended Varnsdorf Way in the North Lanarkshire town on the evening of Tuesday, August 25.
Police received a report of a crash involving a blue Audi A3 and a female pedestrian at around 6.35pm. Upon arrival, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and her family has been notified.
Driver arrested and released
A 23-year-old male driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence. He has since been released pending further enquiry.
The road remained closed for more than six hours to allow a full investigation to take place. It was reopened at around 1am on Wednesday, August 26. Images from the scene showed the street blocked off with emergency vehicles, with officers standing guard at the cordon.
Appeal for witnesses
Sergeant Elaine Scott paid tribute to the woman and urged anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
She said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died as a result of this crash.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and hasn’t already spoken to officers to get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam or private CCTV footage that could assist to contact us.”
