Woman Critical After North Tyneside Crash; Police Appeal

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in North Tyneside on Sunday morning. Northumbria Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Collision Details

At approximately 9:15am on 5 July 2026, police received a report from the ambulance service about a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Benton Road in the Longbenton area. A grey Renault Clio was travelling southbound towards the traffic lights at the junction with Goathland Avenue and West Farm Avenue when, for reasons yet to be established, it struck a female pedestrian.

The woman, in her 60s, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries. She remains in a critical condition. Her next of kin have been informed.

Emergency Response

Emergency services attended the scene, including the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The driver of the Renault Clio remained at the scene and is assisting officers with enquiries. A section of the road was closed for three hours but has since reopened.
