Shania Care-Slede, a 20-year-old woman charged with arson in connection with the moorland fire near Dovestone reservoir, has been released on conditional bail. The decision was made by Judge Maurice Greene at Minshull Street Crown Court on July 20, following a bail application hearing.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Care-Slede first appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court last week, where she faced two charges: one count of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, and one count of dangerous driving. At that hearing, a district judge remanded her in custody. However, after the bail application on July 20, she was granted conditional bail.
Care-Slede, whose date of birth is May 10, 2006, has not yet been required to enter pleas. She is scheduled to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court on August 18 for a plea hearing.

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were first called to the Dovestone area on July 11. In an update released on July 19, the fire service stated: “Firefighters continue to work at both Dovestones and Swineshaw today as part of the ongoing response to the moorland fires. We would like to thank all partners who are supporting the multi-agency response.” The statement also advised residents to avoid areas affected by wildfire smoke where possible, and to stay indoors with doors and windows closed if smoke is visible in their vicinity.
